Visit of Hon’ble Governor to Mawkyrwat
Mawkyrwat May 14th, 2018 : His Excellency the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad visited Mawkyrwat today and held a Review meeting with all the District Heads of South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat at the Multi-Purpose Hall, office of the Deputy Commissioner’s Mawkyrwat with regards to the implementation of schemes and projects in the district. It may also be mentioned that Shri R.L.Tongkhar, M.L.A, Kum. Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Shri H.G. Lyngdoh, Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, Shri N. Syiemiong were also presented in the meeting. In his address His Excellency, Shri Ganga Prasad expressed his pleasure to be able to associate himself with the gathering. He also assured that he has taken note of the importance and needs of the district. He said that he would address to the problems of road connectivity as roads is a lifeline and a backbone that adds to the economy of the people. He urged upon officers to work in tandem with the representatives and district administration in the implementation of schemes and projects for the welfare of the people and in taking the district to greater heights. He said that officials should take keen initiatives in looking after the villagers, especially farmers and to provide them with innovative ideas and solutions in doubling their income. He laid great stresses on the overall development of the villagers as they need special care and attention. He underlined the potentialities and resources that Meghalaya has and how to develop these potentialities which would benefit farmers. He also advised to take up Mushroom and Tomatoes cultivation and convert them into a food processing Unit and other livelihood activities. He also expected that much will be achieved through this forum by calling upon officers to work hard with determination and dedication and quoted the words of “the Father of the Nation “, Late M. K. Gandhi “If the villagers are happy, India is happy”. In his speech, Mr. Tongkhar expressed his disappointment over the deplorable road condition and other problems pertaining to this district and at the same time requested his Excellency to intervene and look into the problems faced by the people of this area. There was also a presentation by different line departments of South West Khasi Hills District. Kum. Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District delivered the welcome address while Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee, DIA NIC Mawkyrwat offered the vote of thanks
