Press conference For Ranikor Beach Fest 2015


Organisers of the Ranikor Beach Festival address the media in the city on Friday, 13th February, 2015. The Ranikor Beach Festival will be held from February 20-21, 2015. The Festival is organized by the South West Khasi Hills District Officer Welfare Association. Fashion shows, live concerts, and sporting activities like beach volleyball, boat rowing etc., will be a feature of the festival to be held at Pamdaba. Visitors will be able to taste local, national and international cuisines at the festival. Besides, cultural troupes from Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, War Jaintia, Ri-BHoi, Garo Hills among others will perform during the event. (Courtesy: 14th February, 2015; The Shillong Times)

Republic Day Celebration 2015


The 66th Republic Day of India was celebrated at Maharam Govt. Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat by the DC's office of South West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya with a great deal of patriotic zeal and fervour. The event was chaired by Smti. R. Lyngdoh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District in presence of Smti. R. Iangrai, MCS , ADC South West Khasi Hills District, Shri H. S. Diengdoh, MCS, ADC South West Khasi Hills District, officials from different departments along with a huge gathering of local people. The programme comprised of the events detailed below:

Flag Hoisting

National Flag was hoisted by the VIP Shri H. D. R. Lyngdoh, MLA. As the national flag waved in the mild wind national anthem was sung by all. After the national anthem the VIP inspected the parade contingents, followed by the oratory speech by the VIP, in which he emphasized on unity of the citizen and duty of all towards the nation building process.

March Past:

South West Khasi Hills District Police Department, Local College and school students participated in the glorious march past. March past was followed by a tableau presentation event by the various government departments.

Cultural & Children’s Programme:

The events that followed were cultural programme by different cultural troops of the district, school students etc, and Children’s programme, an exhibition football match between NCC Mawkyrwat vs kyntiew-la-i-sap XI. The prize distribution ceremony was held shortly after that.

Performance by Live Band:

The programme was concluded with a live performance by the famous band from Shillong “WILD TEARS” which was enjoyed by officials and civilians together.

Importance of the Republic Day:

India is a country having people of different cultures, societies, religions and languages who interplay with each other harmoniously. Independence to the India is the great pride as it was obtained over years after facing a variety of obstacles and hurdles.

The day is celebrated every year to feel the Indian people very proud for living in the multi cultural and independent country. Republic Day is celebrated in very colourful and exhilarating ways in order to make memorable and significant celebration of the year. National Anthem is sing by the people participated in the celebration. This celebration brings all the Indian people together at one place and thinks at one topic.
